Seven Days

Hello family and friends!.. and anyone else who decided to read this blog!

I started this blog to share with you the many adventures I will embark in the beautiful country of South Africa. To be quite honest, the only things I know about South Africa are the things I see in pictures from google and the small comments from friends.
So to my knowledge I:
1. will see animals like elephants and zebras
2. should not eat things called "smileys"
3. HAVE to drink a soda called appletizers, "addicting" she says
4. will fall in love with the people there
5. should not openly swim in the ocean, sharks WILL be present
6. need to pack for every type of weather, "oh darn" I have to pack more clothes ;)
7. will constantly be busy busy busy while I am there
8. have the opportunity to home stay with a family in Cape Town
9. will make new friends
10. will experience God there and forever my life will be changed

I have heard so many great things about this place, yet I only remember ten things.
I have awesome memory, don't you think?
Perhaps it's better that I didn't remember everything. I'm excited to have my own experiences in SA good and bad; interacting with the people who stare and know I am American because of my accent (or my love for cheeseburgers..), trying the weird looking but tasty foods I come across, looking like a fool because I have yet adapted to their culture fully, worshipping God with a community who overflow with love and joy, creating wonderful friendships, being homesick, breathing in the non-polluted air, touching an elephant (crossing my fingers for that one), and perhaps being fluent in Zulu ;)

A lot of people have asked me why I chose to travel to South Africa. And my answer is still the same, I don't know why I chose this location. I almost feel like it chose me? I prayed about it and asked God why I was accepted into this program, and it has yet been clear to me. But I do have a strong feeling it will be revealed to me when my journey begins there. So if you want to know the answer as much as I do, well, I suggest you stick around and follow me along in my adventures! Plus I'll have pretty pictures, so at least that is worth it :)

Thank you for all the prayers and comforting words!
You will all be missed dearly for the next three and a half months.

Always, Allex

p.s. Comments or questions on any of my posts are welcomed, so don't hesitate to drop by a hello :)
